I was thinking they could put a team in Honolulu. They could play in Aloha Stadium. One advantage they would have is that they would not have to compete with any other team, except for the University of Hawaii.
Joey- I know that they would have to travel a lot and that would be a downside. And, even though it sucks, the MLS is not very popular. I just thought that if a team had one less team to compete with the fans would support them more. And Pryor- If soccer sucks why are you in this section?
MLS is a young league. MLS doesn’t want the league to end up like the NASL. MLS purposely have a low salary cap so that clubs can turn a profit.
There is no way MLS will put a team in Honolulu. The travel expenses for that club would be 4 maybe 5 times as high as any other team. It would be hard to make up that type of revenue.
Keep in mind how many games they play:
Preseason Games (3-6 Games)
30 MLS Games (15 Away Games)
1-4 US Open Cup Games
SuperLiga Games (If they qualify)
CONCACAF Champions League (If they qualify)
Playoff Games (If qualify)
20+ Away Games
That is a lot of money to spend on Air Fare and hotels for 22 players plus staff.
soccer sucks

The way you’re thinking of a new team just can’t happen. MLS is a professional sports league; every team has to compete against each other, at least some time during the season. You can’t have a Honolulu MLS team only compete against a college team, something no MLS team would be able to do anyway. A Honolulu MLS team would have to take trips to the continental United States a lot, and that’s why Hawaii doesn’t have professional sports teams, and won’t have them for any time soon due to the economic crisis of 2008 & 2009, as we know it.

I don’t think that would work but maybe like Austin Texas! That would rock!
