What is the best Hawaii Island for an anniversary?

I am looking at going to Hawaii for my 10 year anniversary. Which island is the best one for this type of vacation? What time of year is the best time to go to Hawaii? Any suggestions for a hotel?

I think Maui is not as crowded as the Honolulu area, and it has great beaches. It also has a lot to do there, and is pretty. You can get the best rates in the fall to stay there- I know of a condo that is renting at $80/nt. for the fall, and it is near a great beach. Owner owned condos can be a better deal- for about half the price of a hotel. You can also make you meals in the kitchens, and save money there. What is the difference between living in Hawaii and California?

I currently live in Hawaii and was soon planning to go to California for college. I’ve been advised that in some areas there have been prejudice people and that concerns me. I’ve never really been to the mainland before so everything would be a new experience. Any information is wanted(: thanks!

Don’t worry about it. You’ll be fine. You do know that thousands of people from Hawaii go to school in Cali every year right? Either your college has a lot of Hawaii kids, the (UC’s, etc. or they don’t, but either way, you’ll be fine. There’s going to be prejudice every where. Even in Hawaii. Some people at my school ( I go to school in the midwest) have a problem with Hawaii kids just because we are from Hawaii but you just ignore the haters. Theres a lot of Hawaii kids at my school too. And we’re having fun here. Don’t worry about it. I doubt a lot of people will be in your face about being in Hawaii. If they are, they’re stupid and you don’t have to worry about them.

Are you asian? If you’re asain, get ready for some culture shock. Remember being the majority and not the minority in Hawaii? Well you’ll finally get to be a minority in the mainland. Its not a bad thing, its just the way it is. Nothing to worry about.

What are the best months to visit hawaii? Is September considered hurricane season there?

I’m looking into hawaii for my honeymoon and want as much information as possible.

OK, here’s my whole list. Hurricanes generally don’t get to Hawaaii, but they do sometimes have severe weather/storms like right now a lot of rain. Its hot in summers, like 90’s, but pleasant the rest of the year.

The top things to do in Hawaii are:

1. Go to Pearl Harbor to see history at the US Arizona Memorial. You can drive or take the bus there; no need to book a tour. (Oahu Island)

2. If you are on the island of Oahu (where Honolulu and Waikiki beach is) go to the other side of the island to see the great deserted beaches (get a rental car for a day or two).

3. If you go to the Polynesian Cultural Center (Oahu) understand that its run by the Morman church and there are NO alcoholic beverages served there, not even beer. I say skip it and do a Luau instead.

4. If you go to Maui, you gotta do the downhill bike ride. I don’t recommend the sunrise one because you have to get up at 3:00 AM to get started up the mountain and its cold up there that early. If you are a romantic do it, but otherwise no. There are different bike companies and some don’t take you all the way to the top, and some don’t guide you back down. You can come down by yourself, there’s only one road with just a little traffic, but if you are squimish about riding in the street, a company that accompanys you down will help watch the traffic for you. I have been twice and prefer Maui Downhill to the others. These companies have web sites They will pick you up at your hotel, take you to their shop to pick out a wet-suit (for the cold and mist/rain shower maybe) and gloves and helmet; then take you up the mountain; then follow your group down so they can block traffic for your ride; then afterwards take you back to your hotel. Expect this activity to take 75-80% or more of the day.

4. Also in Maui, The Road to Hana is a great drive (you need a rental car). Its a 30 mile winding road that takes 4 hours to drive. Its like driving through the jungle; has a bunch of one lane bridges.

5. On the Big Island of Hawaii: go to the Volcano National Park. Also go see Akaka Falls.

How do I start planning a July 08 Honeymoon to Hawaii?

My fiance and I would like to go to Hawaii for our Honeymoon in July of 2008. How do we get started? Where do I find a travel agent or do I need one? Book flights? What are the best places to stay and islands to visit in Hawaii?

We are looking for something that is calm and relaxing. We will be traveling from Texas.

You can go to a travel agent, or go on Expedia.com
On Expedia, you can book your flight and your hotel for x amount of days you plan on staying at the hotel. Some hotels offer buffet breakfast with your trip.
The Pacific Beach Hotel (Oceanarium Tower), is a really good hotel (we have stayed at the hotel four times out of six). They have a really good buffet breakfast and it is very filling.
Stay in the Oceanarium Tower at least the 12th floor on up with a Diamond Head View room. Partial Oceanview room.

What are some great vacation spots in Hawaii that are good for very young families?

After our baby reaches 1-2 months old, we’d love to take a week’s vacation as a family to Hawaii. We’re hoping to find somewhere private, out of the way and quiet. These factors are more important than cost. Any ideas?

Unfortunately Hawaii is generally not as fun for very young families. Kids under 12 don’t seem to get into all of the scenic wonder and tend to be bored. When they are bored the parents suffer.
Many people from the mainland are coming very long distances. From Chicago it’s at least a 10 hour flight "non-stop" which is a real killer for small kids to stay cooped up on an airplane that long.
Most activities are boring to kids (Pearl Harbor) or too dangerous for kids (riding a bicycle downhill on a volcano). Even swimming in the ocean has to be done with great care.
The best advice, and I know you don’t want to hear it, Leave the kids with realatives and just the grownups come and enjoy yourself.

Will Hawaii ever become a competitive state in basketball for talent?

Derek Low is probably the only player from Hawaii right now with a chance to play in the NBA.

Basketball is good over here but because of the lack of size of most players, colleges don’t look here for recruits often. However, there are players with potential and size but because of competition are questioned.

idk bout hawaii and it sounds good. But the rule of thumb is "If you can play BALL….they’ll find you" if they can scout high school players against high school competition and determine if they are gonna be studs (many failed) then im sure scouting in hawaii wouldnt be hard. some high school guys you may not have known…..

I’m planning on going to school in Hawaii, where I’m from, I’m interested in alot of different majors, but I really want it to be something that will help me survive as I would plan to stay in Hawaii once graduating with my degree. So basically what I’m asking is what is a good career choice for me to choose if I want to stay living in Hawaii after college?

Well, majority of jobs require more than just a bachelors…whether it be in Hawaii or on the US mainland.

I’m drawing a blank as to what you can do here with just a bachelors…uh, as the first poster recommended, you can go into tourism. Or business. (They probably go hand-in-hand).

Marine science, eeeh, not much money there.
