I’m going to Oahu this summer, probably in August, and am wondering what the best condos are. I dont want the condos to be somewhere where its too crowded but i dont want to be isolated either. I still want to be pretty close to the nightlife of Oahu.

Oh you made a great choice Oahu is my favorite island. =)

On Oahu there are basically two areas of condos their is Ko Olina which is pretty up scale it is on a lagoon and their are NO waves on the beach. The only thing out there is the Ko Olina property which is quite big but their isn’t anything else nearby

Then there is Waikiki which has more nightlife. It is on a beach that has 1-3 foot waves depending upon what part of the beach you go to. It has trolley systems that can take you to Oahu’s best mall alamoana. And it has lots of restaurants, shopping, and other entertainment.

here are a few properties in that area that I particularly liked when i stayed there.

This one is a condo

We would like a three- or four-star hotel that has a sandy beach on the Kona coast of the big island.

I’d prefer it walking distance from town, although we will have a rental car. I just like to walk when possible!

The main things we want are a hotel (not a condo), a sandy beach, a good restaurant or two on-site or nearby, and good ocean views.

Many of the properties on the Internet seem to be condos, and we prefer a hotel.

Mahalo!

you are not going to find any hotel within walking distance of Kona Village with a sandy beach. The only hotel I am aware of that has a sandy beach is the Mauna Kea about 15-20 minutes away from the village. It’s a man made beach and very big but I heard the hotel was still closed from the earthquake. I could be completely wrong on that but you should check it out first of course.

Sorry but there are very few sandy beaches, especially large ones, on the Kona coast. Most of the big island’s coast is volcanic rock.

Do you know of a good place in Hawaii, that I can rent for 1 or 2 weeks. I have never been to Hawaii, and want a good first-time experience. So I guess it needs to be close to attractions, ocean, excursions, volcano, etc…

Hotels or condos are fine, as long as there is no old-hotel-smell. What is pricing for a good average place (doesn’t have to be a very high-end hotel)

Thank you all. You have all been very helpful.

stay at the hyatt in lahina, maui. its very nice and you’re right next to the beach, a market area, and a ton of restaurants. if you’re looking for a good restaurant, i recommend cheeseburger in paradise. its amazing. hope you have fun in hawaii!
p.s. mark mine as a best answer–i need points!

We are trying to plan a vacation to hawaii for a week. We have my wife and kids are going and my inlaws totaling 10 people. What island is best? We will want to go to pearl harbor definitely. how much would it cost to get from one island to another? but dont necessary want to stay on that island, we want white sandy beaches, nice people, beautiful nature etc Where is the best place to stay preferably close or on the beach. A house or condo?

First, the good news: there are only 6 Hawaiian islands that you can choose from. Now, the bad news: it is awfully hard to decide which island deserves your attention since each island seems beautiful and fascinating, and your vacation lasts only that many days.Maui, the Magic Isle, is all about variety. With magnificent sunsets, 42 miles of shimmering uncrowded beaches, luxury resorts, and wilderness areas where few outsiders have ever set foot, this island has something for everyone.
You can drive down the famous road to Hana that passes verdant rainforests and waterfalls, watch the sunrise over Haleakala Crater ("The House of the Rising Sun"), hike the rugged North Shore, or browse through a multitude of shops and art galleries in an old whaling town called Lahaina. Maui has an amazing choice of ocean activities, including fantastic diving and snorkeling. In winter, you can watch the humpback whales play and breach in the ocean.
Oahu is best known for Honolulu and Waikiki Beach where you will find plenty of shopping, dining, and thriving nightlife. Other famous attractions include Pearl Harbor, Polynesian Cultural Center, and Sea Life Park. You can hike up the Diamond Head for a spectacular 360-degree view of the island, snorkel in the crystal-clear waters of Hanauma Bay, discover the underwater world during a submarine dive, or sail into the sunset on a dinner cruise. There is no bad choice.

I’m pretty sure we have decided on Hawaii for our honeymoon. It will be about a year from now. I was just wanting to get some ideas on how much it would cost us to go there for two weeks? We would probably ride the bus, rent a small condo, buy groceries, and cook there, and occasionally go out to eat. I’m not sure on what activities we would do. Any help, info, or ideas would be appreciated! Thanks.

Ok, so aside from the flight and hotel/condo costs, which you can find with a simple web search, I wanted to let you in on what everything else costs. My hubby and I did Oahu for a week in 2006, and I would say we spent less than $1000 in just spending money for touristy stuff, meals, etc. If you do the condo and eat in, which we did a lot, it saves quite a bit as the restaurants can get a little pricey (but not as horrible as a lot of people make them out to be). We rented a car, but Oahu also has a pretty good bus system. That would save you too, depending on what you want to do. But renting a car gives you the option of exploring off-the-beaten path places, so something to think about. As for touristy stuff, we did a luau, we went to Pearl Harbor, hiked Diamond Head, shopped the Ala Moana mall (which sounds lame until you see it – it’s a site to see unto itself). Bunch of other little things. You can obviously spend more depending on what you want to do, but $1000 per week is more than enough to "scrape by" on and then some, and enjoy your time. Aloha!
