My husband and I would like to move to Hawaii, and we have 3 dogs that have never been anywhere but home. We don’t think they could handle the trip.
a friend of mine just looked into this as she is moving to hawaii and all she needed was a chip to go in the dog and all medical history.
A friend and I are about to graduate college and plan on taking a well deserved vacation to Hawaii. Relax on the beach, surf, but primarily, be away from our old lives. Meet new people and have new experiences.We would like to stay in Hawaii for about three months. Would need an apartment. Preferably two bedrooms. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just normal. Near the beach. Obviously not on it, that would be a fortune. But with in walking distant. Don’t know anything about Hawaii, or where’s the best place to live. Hoping we can get some tips on that. Keep in mind we are running on a tight budget. With the hope of spending somewhere between 800 to 900 dollars on rent. Don’t know the prices of rent in Hawaii, but if its anything like the other Beach’s Ive lived on, than that price would be reasonable. Did check on line, but nothing for what I’m looking for came up. Just mostly condos and REALLY fancy apartments. If anyone has any information on this matter if would be great fully appreciated
Hmmm…first you need to go back in time. Once you’ve mastered that, finding a two-bedroom apartment under $1000 should be a snap! Just ’cause those apartments you found online are expensive doesn’t mean they’re fancy, let me tell you! Doesn’t mean you’re close to the beach or that the breeze blows all the way through your un-air-conditioned apartment on a hot summer night.
Keep in mind there are people in Hawaii working two or three jobs, in their late twenties with a couple of kids, but still living with their parents because they can’t affort a two bedroom apartment. There are also many Native Hawaiians moving to places like Oregon and Las Vegas because they can’t afford to live in their native land anymore.
Seems there are a bunch of folks on North America and other continents–God knows where they get their money–who like to come to Hawaii to live for fun part of the year. They drive up the home prices and rents, making it a struggle for anyone who actually lives here.
I lived in a dorm on Oahu for years. When I came back to Hawaii, I knew it had to be in such a way that I could stay, and in such a way that I wasn’t taking a job from somebody local. That’s why I work in a public school in a rural area, where the skin is brown and the test scores are low.
At the same time, I know the chances of me ever being able to buy a home are pretty slim. Right now on my full-time professional salary, I might get a 30-year mortgage on a small, remote vacant lot. I can’t even afford to buy a studio condo where I can’t keep pets.
That’s the reality, and that’s why many people stay in Hawaii for a week or two, and then go back where they can afford to live.
You want to live in Hawaii for a year or two? Get to know the people? Get your teaching certificate and live in subsidized teacher housing in a rural area for a couple of years. But don’t let anybody tell you it’s going to be easy.

Would like some information about a Tomtom GPS?
I am coming to Hawaii in May for a holiday and I saw Tomtom One third addition GPS on sale at Walmart.
Half the price than in Australia.
What I would like to know is
1)Do they use an XD or SP memory card?
2)If it has an internal memory and not a card and I download the Australian Maps when I get home,will I loose the USA maps?
3)Can you download maps from other companies or only Tomtom,as the new maps cost as much as the GPS?

Are you sure about that model and the memory card? I understand that the maps are pre loaded for the USA,just don’t want to loose them when I put Australian maps on,cause I intend to go back to the mainland in a year or so .

Some maps (normally popular countries) are already installed, you buy local maps and updates on an SD card for Australia. Keep in mind though, I had my Tom Tom stolen when I just ran into a milk bar, I got another one and downloaded a phone home software if it ever happens again. Antitheft.net.au, it also saved me some $$ on my home insurance.
